What O.J. Whispered: Robert Shapiro Comes Clean With Megyn Kelly

All eyes were on Megyn Kelly‘s primetime Fox special, Megyn Kelly Presents, last night to see her interview with Donald Trump, but the journalist also sat down with another controversial subject: Robert Shapiro. The 73-year-old lawyer was a key part of O.J. Simpson‘s defense team in the “Trial of the Century.” As The Daily Mail reports, last night he revealed to Kelly what Simpson whispered in his ear after the not guilty verdict was returned.

Did O.J. admit guilt? Did he reveal who did it? Here’s what he said: “You told me this would be the result from the beginning. You were right.”

When Shapiro was asked if the verdict was fair, he got a little slippery with the legalese. He didn’t say whether or not he thought O.J. was innocent, but he did say that he thought there was reasonable doubt. Shapiro also admitted that he personally believes that at least two assailants were involved in the murders. He would not say if he thought Simpson was one of these murderers. The recent miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story depicted Shapiro as a vain man burdened by doubts about his client’s innocence.

O.J. Simpson, the sports star turned movie star turned accused murder turned convicted felon, has died at the age of 76. From the Decider archives:

Shapiro also admitted to Kelly that he tried on the infamous Isotoner glove in between court sessions and knew immediately that it wouldn’t fit Simpson. He told Kelly, “I tried the glove on. It was a little bit wide in my palm and a little bit long in my fingers. O.J. Simpson has enormous hands and I knew that the glove would not fit him. No question about it. Wouldn’t even be close.”

Apparently Shapiro encouraged Simpson to stand close to the jury during this moment and to showcase the poor fit.

UPDATE (4/11/24): Sadly, Megyn Kelly Presents is no longer available to stream.
