Happy Wednesday! We’re happy because it’s time to celebrate one of our favorite on-screen queens. Each week, we pick a gal we want to be pals with, based on their fantastic work that we can’t take our eyes off of. With the release of the season two trailer for Mr. Robot this week, it was a no-brainer that we honor Portia Doubleday.
Was there enough of her in the trailer? No. But the entire thing is super mysterious, because, hello, it’s Mr. Robot. We do have it on good authority that she’s going to be even more fantastic in the second season than she was in the last. Who knew that was even possible? But this show is never one to let us down when it comes to surprises. Portia stars as Angela Moss, an Evil Corp employee and childhood friend of Elliot (Rami Malek). We can’t wait for season two to find out what Angela’s up to now after the big economic crash.

WHO’S THAT GAL?: Portia Doubleday
WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: On Mr. Robot, Portia is able to use her eyes to convey an entire spectrum of expressions in any given scene. Her character is a perfect example of one of those coveted “interesting roles for women.” Angela is complex; she’s simultaneously smart and strong, while being no stranger to vulnerability. She’s sneaky when she needs to be yet she’s an intuitive and caring friend, too. Portia helps bring a level of mystery to Angela that keeps viewers on their toes every week. Plus, from her braids to loose waves, she has really pretty hair that is consistently providing workplace hairstyle inspirations.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: The L.A. native starred opposite Michael Cera in the highly underrated Youth in Revolt. She was a love interest like no other and had great chemistry with Cera. Doubleday also showed up in Her, Carrie and Mr. Sunshine, the one-season Matthew Perry sitcom (which deserved another shot!).
WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Season two of Mr. Robot cannot get here soon enough. It’s back on USA July 13th and we are already counting down the days until we reunite with our favorite hacker and his friends. But if you want to watch someone who looks like Portia? Well, you’ll find her sister, Kaitlin Doubleday as Rhonda Lyon on Empire. Great show, but not enough hacking, if you ask us.
