Final Shots: Hulu Acquires New Zealand Drama Series ‘Filthy Rich’ For U.S. Debut

Hulu has acquired New Zealand drama series Filthy Rich for a U.S. debut. According to the New Zealand Herald, the 20-episode first season was purchased for an undisclosed sum.

The pilot had debuted to 400,000 local viewers in New Zealand before dropping to nearly half that number. Although the show may have flopped at home with sub-par ratings, the streaming giant will give it a second chance by streaming it for its 12 million plus subscribers in the states. “It sits comfortably alongside international series but with a definite Kiwi attitude, tackling racial and gender politics, placing a Maori woman at the top of a multi-national company,” said the show’s producer Steven Zanoski. “This snapshot of a contemporary yet heightened New Zealand lifestyle is likely to have broad appeal overseas.”
