Netflix has lost their latest battle in a continued fight for the debut of two Relativity Media films at the hands of a New York City judge. As of today, Netflix will not be permitted to stream the bankrupt studio’s forthcoming films Masterminds starring Zach Galifianakis and The Disappointments Room this June.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michael Wiles argued today in a Manhattan court that Netflix’s streaming plan for the films was conceived in “bad faith.” Netflix has argued that after paying $7.4 million to Relativity Films in an effort to guarantee their stake in the releases, they have every right to stream the films, regardless of financial impact. The judge’s decision was granted in an effort to avoid sidetracking the studio’s recovery from Chapter 11. The terms of the studio’s rehabilitation revolve around a number of deals made with lenders that would only be fulfilled if the films are to be released in theaters. Netflix is likely to file an appeal.
