Why Did Meryl Streep Morph Into Donald Trump Last Night?

Meryl Streep can do anything. The 19-time Academy Award nominee is known for her ability to morph into any other living being at the drop of a hat. She’s played everyone from Polish emigrees, all-American working women, to Julia Child. Last night she may have topped herself: She became Donald Trump.

USA Today reports that Streep slathered herself in fake tanner and donned a wig (and fat suit!) to play Trump for The Public Theater Annual Gala. The event is intended to raise money for the organization that offers free theater to the people of New York in Central Park every year. Streep and The Good Wife star Christine Baranski pretended to be Trump and his rival, presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Hilary Clinton, for a duet. They sang “Brush Up On Your Shakespeare” from the classic Broadway show, Kiss Me, Kate.

Sadly, there’s no official video of the event, but Everything is Copy director Jacob Bernstein captured some footage on twitter. Bernstein is coincidentally the son of Nora Ephron, who was Streep’s friend and frequent collaborator. Check out the footage below:
