Watch out y’all, Mindy’s back from Texas and she’s ready to do some spittin’! In this week’s episode of The Mindy Project, “Princeton Charming”, Mindy’s fresh off her trip from the Lone Star State, and she’s already crossing state lines again. Plus, a new love interest? Let’s get the details on this one.

Mindy (Mindy Kaling) comes back into the office at her Mindy-est, with heartfelt airport kiosk presents for everyone. Before she can give Jody (Garret Dillahunt) his present, a fancy belt buckle with his name on it, which clearly is not an airline magazine like Morgan (Ike Barinholtz) lucked out with, it is revealed that Jody has a new girlfriend. Who is lining up to date this guy? Well, Courtney (Maria Thayer). She’s exposing him to wild concepts such as “brunch”, and they’ve already scheduled a romantic weekend away. Or so he thinks.

Mindy has set up a special presentation for her fertility company, Later Baby, at her alma matter, Princeton (only because they haven’t realized she was the streaker at the reunion). Jody is not happy to put his “bangcation” (Mindy’s word, obviously) on hold for a trip to exotic New Jersey. Quickly it becomes Mindy who is not happy, as Courtney lets out a violent sneeze every few seconds during the car ride. That, plus her claiming to be from Boston, but basically being from a town closer to New Hampshire, does not fly with Mindy, who declares herself the exception to the Asian woman driver rule. She’s right about everything so far.

The gang is all set up for their presentation when a bunch of dumb jocks stroll in, claiming they booked the Princeton auditorium that day for football recruitment. Well, it turns out they are right, and that Mindy booked the room for 2017. Doh, indeed. However, the head jock, Drew (Jay R. Ferguson), remembers Mindy from her fry-eating days in the dining hall, and turns out to be a nice jock, letting Mindy & Co. use it. He even helps her spread the word, using some of Mindy’s stereotypical tactics in the campus library. She knows how to appeal to the nerds because she was one until she discovered “vodka crans”. Morgan thinks she said “vodka crayons” and seriously, someone hurry up and make those ASAP please. They sound beautifully delicious. Anyway, they get a surprisingly good turnout and the presentation goes well, hooray!

Even better: the chemistry between Mindy and Drew. Can we get a slow clap for the casting this season on The Mindy Project? The flurry of sneaky hot dudes they have been parading in and out of Mindy’s life has been top notch this season. They all bring a fun spark to both Mindy’s life and the show, and this dude is no exception. However, at the same time, Morgan is telling Jody he knows about that time Jody pushed Mindy’s hair out of her face when she was sleeping. Jody, naturally, gets all defensive, and brings that attitude to the table when they hit the bar later that night. Courtney is back to her sneezing self, Jody cockblocks Mindy when Drew shows up, and the entire thing explodes with them all taking turns leaving the bar.

Jody gets his hands on the belt buckle, realizing Mindy got him something special and he is conflicted yet again. He goes to speak with her, but Morgan shuts it down before he can reveal the truth. Which is great, because it gives Mindy the opportunity to hang out with Drew, hooking up that night and making plans to do so again when he’s in NYC, even though she “hates sports and would rather die”. For this dude, she’ll learn to tolerate them.

With not much time left in the season, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out, or more importantly, how Jody interrupts it. He keeps getting closer and closer to coming clean to Mindy. Or at the very least, we can probably count on Morgan to let it slip. But seriously though: can we make the vodka crayons a thing?
