30 For 30: O.J. Made in America

Who knew that 2016 would be the year of an O.J. Simpson revival? If the conclusion of Ryan Murphy’s The People vs. O.J. left you craving more from this legendary American crime story, you’re in luck. ESPN has created a five part, seven hour and 43 minute documentary series about the case under its 30 for 30 brand. The series is called O.J.: Made in America, and to date, it’s scored a rare 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95 on Metacritic.

Directed by Ezra Edelman, the ambitious and thorough docu-series uses more than 70 interviews and countless hours of archival footage to explore the “Trial of the Century.” However, the series isn’t merely about the murder. O.J.: Made in America is a powerful and intelligent exploration of Simpson’s rise to fame, fall from grace, and Los Angeles’ rocky race relations. Reviews of the series have been overwhelmingly positive, and this docu-series is being called the greatest project to come out of ESPN’s 30 for 30 brand — an impressive allegation considering that same brand has given us compelling docs such as Fantastic Lies and I Hate Christian Laettner. Last year, the documentary everyone was talking about was HBO’s The Jinx. In December, it was Netflix’s Making a Murderer. This summer, you can feel confident that O.J.: Made in America is going to take its much discussed and appreciated place on the true crime television throne.

Part one of the five part documentary premiered last night on ABC. However, the remaining four parts will be shown on ESPN. If you still have cable and want to watch it live, here’s the schedule for the remaining segments:

  • Part II: Tuesday, June 14, 9 p.m. ET on ESPN (Part I re-airs at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN)
  • Part III: Wednesday, June 15, 9 p.m. ET on ESPN (Part II re-airs at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN)
  • Part IV: Friday, June 17, 9 p.m. ET on ESPN (Part III re-airs at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN)
  • Part V: Saturday, June 18, 9 p.m. on ESPN (Part IV re-airs at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN)

But how do we cord-cutters watch? Don’t worry; there are a few options. Starting on June 14, the series will be available in full on WatchESPN. However, using WatchESPN does require a cable sign in.

According to the released list of programs coming to Hulu in June, Part I should be heading to the streaming service sometime today. At the time of this article’s publications, Part I isn’t currently available. However, because Part I was released Saturday night at 9 p.m. ET, it’s possible that O.J.: Made in America will be available on Hulu today at 9 p.m. Happy watching.
