Things on the Wednesday daydream checklist: what to eat for lunch, to buy or not to buy those sandals on sale, and our latest woman crush. Answers: probably salad, YOLO (buy them), and definitely Katie Aselton.
Aselton has joined the second season of Casual, and in the first two episodes, all we knew about her character was that she was named Jennifer and her couch was blocking the entire hallway at Valerie’s (Michaela Watkins) practice. We got a quick intro to Jennifer, but just knowing that Aselton will be on the show is a good sign — having her on your show pretty much guarantees it will be good.
WHO’S THAT GAL: Katie Aselton
WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Everything about Aselton oozes woman crush. You can tell she’s the kind of gal that would be fun at brunch, and also wouldn’t be afraid to yell at a dude for not texting you back. And yes, we’ve gathered this evidence from her acting because she can play your best friend, your worst nightmare, or just one of the guys — and when necessary, all 3 at the same time.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: She recently wrapped up a run on the second and final season of Togetherness on HBO, in perhaps the meanest role we’ve ever seen her play. She was totally bitchy and conniving and tried to sabotage Michelle’s (Melanie Lynskey) dreams to open a school of her own. But she did wear a beautiful white dress at the fundraiser that time. Aselton was also a main character on The League for 7 seasons alongside her husband, Mark Duplass, and it’s like, we can’t even tell which of them we’re more jealous of because they both get to hang out with each other all the time. In fact, Duplass has cast her in several of his films, most notably one of his earliest, The Puffy Chair, where Aselton is the definition of fresh-faced, bringing a really genuine performance to the screen. Since then, Aselton wrote, directed, and starred in two films of her own, The Freebie with Dax Shepard and Black Rock with Lake Bell and Kare Bosworth. We’re dealing with a triple threat here, people!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Besides a lot more of her on Casual this season, you can also see her in the upcoming movie Bastards with Owen Wilson and Ed Helms, as well as Legion, where she will join Dan Stevens and Aubrey Plaza in the much-hyped X-Men TV show from Fargo producer Noah Hawley. Also see you at brunch this weekend, right Katie?
