As you may recall, the charming sitcom Younger featured one of the randiest storylines on TV last season. Basically, we got to see Glee alum Matthew Morrison have sexy time with a sheep.

The set up was this: Series protagonist Liza (Sutton Foster) was pumped to start dating a handsome shepherd named Sebastian, played by Morrison. Everything was going great until she walked in on him cheating on her with one of his fuzzy flock. Can’t picture it for yourself? Need a proper visual representation? Don’t worry. We got you covered:

So how did Younger creator and showrunner Darren Star get the idea to put Morrison in that position? Star revealed to us that he was inspired by literature.

“We really look at the books out there to inspire story sometimes because it’s a show about publishing. And there was a book about a shepherd in England that became a big bestseller that was sort of the inspiration for the storyline,” said Star. [Note: We think it’s THIS book about an English shepherd, The Shepherd’s Life]

He added, “You know, I like the idea that Liza finally had a moment where she was dating somebody. She thought she was dating somebody who was like getting away from the business and life in New York. And you know, it was just something that was going to bite her in the ass.”

“You got to go with your gut and what makes us laugh in the writers’ room. We just loved her being surprised that way and to have the rug pulled out from under her,” he continued with a smile.

Sure, but why Matthew Morrison?!?!?

Star confessed, “We didn’t know it was going to be Matthew Morrison. Had we known it would be Matthew Morrison, we would have liked to have kept him on a couple episodes longer. At the time, you know, it was just ‘the hot shepherd.'”

I guess the hot shepherd most certainly should not be confused with the good shepherd.

Season Three of Younger is in production right now.
