Afternoon Delight: Relish in the Messy Misadventures of ‘Shooting the Moon’

What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re spotlighting Shooting the Moon, an all-too-real web series about a struggling young filmmaker’s misadventures in Montreal.

Created by and starring Danielle Lapointe and directed by Jeremy Sandor, the series kicks off with a look into the mundane movie theater job held by our plucky protagonist. When Danielle’s brace-faced coworker assures her that she’s “still, like, attractive, though” despite being 25 and she later runs into an old friend at the drugstore who has just returned from Cannes, she reevaluates things and takes to Craigslist to apply for film gigs. She receives a response much more quickly than anticipated, and without knowing what she’s actually going to do on the shoot, eagerly agrees to it. What seems like an exciting opportunity is soon revealed to be a trio of joint-smoking teenagers looking to make a stunt movie, and though the offer is less than appealing, Danielle makes the most of it: “let’s talk lighting”.

The rest of the series follows Danielle through porn problems, awkward encounters with her boyfriend (and ex-boyfriend), French-speaking flubs, bad job interviews, unexpected acting gigs, and a number of other shenanigans. This determined lady won’t take no for an answer, even if it means donning face paint and dealing with disgruntled movie theater guests. The strength of the supporting cast breathes life and laughter into every episode, and Lapointe’s honest, deadpan delivery and unapologetic individuality makes the series one you’ll have to binge in one sitting.
