The best of the 2015-16 TV season — or at least the version of “best” as defined by the TV academy — was recognized today as nominations for the 68th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced.

Last year’s Outstanding Drama champ Game of Thrones enjoyed perhaps its most crowd-pleasing season of them all this year, and they were rewarded to the tune of 23 total nominations, leading the entire field. An Outstanding Drama nomination was a given, but what really surprised was a whopping SIX acting nominations, including notices for Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, Kit Harrington, and guest star Max Von Sydow.

In many ways, the biggest sensation on TV this season was FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and that was reflected in the 22 nominations it got, tied with Fargo for second-best of the morning.

USA’s Mr. Robot was a critical darling in its first season, and many expected it to be a big winner on nomination morning. It delivered, to the tune of six nominations, including an Outstanding Drama nod and recognition for star Rami Malek (though Golden Globe winner Christian Slater was shut out).

The 68th Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air on ABC on September 18th.
