Sarah Silverman Calls ‘Bernie Or Bust’ Crowd “Ridiculous” And Susan Sarandon Has The Worst Night Ever

There’s a curse and a blessing that come with having your political platform heavily supported by a variety of celebrities. On the pro side, you have enough famous faces to make your opponent’s celebrity picks look weak. On the con side, celebs, especially comedians, have a history of going off the book. That’s exactly what happened during Sarah Silverman‘s Democratic National Convention speech last night.

Sarah Silverman was scheduled to give a speech alongside Senator and former SNL star Al Franken. Silverman’s speech, coming from a former Sanders supporter, was supposed to help unify the divided Democratic Party. However, things expectedly took a turn for the ugly. The DNC was filled with a fair amount of Bernie Sanders supporters, who made their political displeasure known. These diehard Bernie Bros had been booing Clinton endorsements all night, and Silverman’s own speech was interrupted several times by boos and chants of “Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!” That’s the climate Silverman was in when she delivered this unscripted scolding to Bernie supporters:

To the Bernie or Bust crowd, you’re being ridiculous.

And then Silverman and Franken had to stall to cover for a behind-the-scenes delay. Saying it was awkward is an understatement.

Speaking of diehard Bernie supporters being dramatic, Susan Sarandon got a lot of DNC press attention. You may know Sarandon for her roles in Thelma & Louise and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but last night she was known for her “completely over this” expressions.

The Oscar-winning actress was caught looking miserable and shaking her head in disagreement during Sanders’ endorsement speech for Clinton. Sarandon has been an outspoken Sanders supporter and has criticized Clinton on numerous occasions, calling her more “dangerous” than Republican nominee Donald Trump. In an April interview with Bill Maher, the actress was asked if she would vote for Clinton if she was chosen as the Democratic nominee. Saradon skirted the question several times before Maher finally dropped it. The actress has since confirmed on Twitter that, yes, she did have the worst time at the DNC. She even included all the proper hashtags to make sure we knew.

For anyone who was scared that the DNC would be a snoozefest compared to last week’s Republican National Convention, there’s no need to worry. Things are starting off as normally as they can for politics in 2016.
