What’s New On Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO This Weekend: Ellen Page, ‘My Little Pony,’ ‘Vikings,’ And More

We’re closer to the end of summer than the beginning, but it’s not time to cry summertime sadness just yet. You still have plenty of sunshine left in your future. However, if you’re looking for a mini streaming vacation, you’re in luck. Netflix, HuluAmazon Prime Video, and HBO have just added a bunch of new shows and movies to ensure that your time off is as entertaining as possible. But that’s not all. This week also marks new additions from specialty streaming services like Showtime, Starz, Acorn TV, and DramaFever. There’s a reason to love summer.

If you’re a fan of reality TV and documentaries, then you’re in luck. This weekend, another season of Spike’s addictive series Bar Rescue has been added to Hulu. Love college sports? Netflix’s college football docu-series Last Chance U premieres today. What if you’re looking for something a bit more abstract? Joseph Gordon-Levitt has you covered with a second season of Hit RECord on TV. If you prefer something more fantastical, you’re also covered. Season Two of The Strain should sate all of your sci-fi obsessives, and Vikings is a great binge for anyone who loves historical fiction. This weekend also marks the premiere of Netflix’s new Ellen Page-led indie drama, Tallulah. No matter what you’re craving this weekend, you’re probably covered.

As Juno proved oh-so-many years ago, Ellen Page has a great track record when it comes to movies about babies. We’re hoping that some of that baby magic will translate to this Netflix distributed movie, starring Allison Janney. A dissatisfied Beverly Hills housewife has a nervous breakdown and hires a stranger to babysit. The film has gotten mixed reviews, largely criticizing its plot but praising its cast. However, since that cast includes Page and Janney, we’re in.

The Strain: Season 2

Want to catch up on this FX drama before its Season Three release in August? You’re in luck. Season Two has just been added to Hulu. The sci-fi drama looks into a world ravaged by an ancient strain of vampirism. And no, these vampires don’t sparkle. They attack. If you’re looking for an action-packed sci-fi watch, this is your weekend binge.

It’s almost fall, which means college football will soon be here. If waiting a month to see your favorite teams battle it out on the field sounds too painful, check out this new docu-series. The Netflix Original follows East Mississippi Community College, a small college that has an astoundingly successful football program. This school is many athletes’ last chance to go pro. However, if the name sounds familiar to you, you’re probably thinking of the team’s championship-ruining on-field brawl that happened in 2015. This doc captures all the drama and aftermath of that fight and so much more.
