Marta Kauffman’s production outfit Okay Goodnight (Netflix’s Grace and Frankie) is developing an American rendition of the hit Israeli TV family drama, Shtisel. The adaptation, to be titled Emmis, has been picked up by Amazon to series and will premiere via Prime Video upon completion.

According to Deadline, Etan Cohen will write, direct, and executive produce the U.S. adaptation. The uniquely authentic family drama provides a rare glimpse into the inward-looking climate of the ultra-orthodox community. Premiering in 2013 on Israel’s YES Network, the original series has been awarded four Israeli TV Academy Awards.

Kenneth Choi will play a cunning drug dealer named Kojima and Cody Johns will take the role of Roy “Killohertz” Torvald, an avid gamer who can’t seem to get enough of a time-altering energy drink called Impulse. Amazon Studios has nabbed production firm Scott Free’s TV adaptation of Susanna Jones’ novel, The Earthquake Bird. Directed by Wash Westmoreland, the Prime Video thriller will center on the book’s two main women characters in early ’90s Tokyo who fall in love with the same man. Gimore Girls producer Amy Sherman-Palladino has cast Rachel Brosnahan as the lead in her forthcoming Prime Video dramedy pilot, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The series will focus on a perky 25-year-old Jewish girl, married with two children in Manhattan. [Deadline]

Netflix is reportedly interested in Channel 4’s (UK) adaptation of the cult graphic novel, The End of the F**king World. The forthcoming TV adaptation of Charles Forsman’s dark coming of age tale will begin production next year helmed by Clerkenwell Films (Misfits). [Business Insider]

Martha Higareda (Royal Pains) has been cast as the female lead opposite to Joel Kinnaman in Netflix’s upcoming futuristic drama, Altered Carbon. James Purefoy (who will co-star), as well as Dichen Lachman and Leonardo Nam have also been cast in the Skydance Television-produced series. [Deadline]
