We don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a little thing called the Olympics is happening right now in Rio de Janeiro. Last night, American swimmer Ryan Lochte swam what might have been his final race in the Olympics. He squared off one final time against friend and rival Michael Phelps…and didn’t even medal. Still, watching the 12-time Olympic medalist take his final big swim made us think of all the good times we’ve had with him over the years. He’s the guy who gave us “Jeah!” and the man who once appeared on 30 Rock as himself, noted “sex idiot.”
That’s right: Ryan Lochte had a blink and you’ll miss it cameo on a season seven episode of 30 Rock called “Stride of Pride.” Lochte is introduced by Jack’s girlfriend as her “sex idiot.” He’s basically just there to dumbly fulfill her sexual needs. His wikipedia calls it “an exaggerated version” of Lochte’s true self, but we think positioning him as a sex idiot is pretty on the money. Lochte became a big deal during the 2012 London Olympics, but after a reality show and a string of interviews revealed that, uh, he was kind of a sweet, horny moron, the swimmer morphed into an iconic “sex idiot.”
Since its cancelation, 30 Rock has emerged as the gospel of our time, the one show that has been proved right about everything. Watch the episode and you’ll even notice a very prescient joke about “Pokemon.”
