Game of Thrones won’t be back on HBO until sometime next summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t already freak out about what’s coming next. Season Seven is officially in production and that means that scripts are being passed around, new characters are being cast, and the showrunners are sneaking in little teasers into new interviews. So we thought this would be a good place to pause, take stock of all the news briefs and online gossip, and to share everything we absolutely know about Game of Thrones Season Seven so far.

**SPOILERS AHEAD!**

Last month, HBO unveiled an “in-production tease” that suggests that Cersei’s rein in King’s Landing will be bleak (and we’ll be seeing a lot of funerals…you know because of all the people she killed). It ends with Tyrion saying, “Welcome home, my queen.” We assume he’s saying that to Daenerys, but it’s far too early to presume that this line will end up in the final cut.

Nevertheless, new details are emerging day by day about the new season. Here are seven things we know about Season Seven of Game of Thrones right now!

1

Maisie Williams Is A Troll

got-arya-laugh

We’re sure that Maisie Williams is a lovely person in real life, but right now the actress who plays Arya is trolling us hard. She went on a twitter spree this week taunting Game of Thrones fans about the seventh season. Evidently she just finished reading all of the scripts and wanted to share that we’re just not ready for this proverbial jelly.

That’s right nothing will prepare you! Except maybe watching the first six seasons and reading all of the published books.

2

Cersei Has Lost Her Heart

got-s6-finale-21.54

We got to see Cersei go full evil queen at the end of last season and it looks like her descent into darkness will continue next year. In a recent interview with Deadline, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss reflected on where Cersei’s head is and where she might be going.

That’s what so much of next season is going to be about; finding out what Cersei’s mindset is, and who is she? Cersei has certainly done a lot of horrible things in her life and she could be a very cruel person, but the one thing that was redemptive about her was she genuinely loved her children. Now they’re all gone, and I think that is very interesting for us. Who is she, without her children? The answer is something you’ll find out about next season.

Later they added: “Now that her children are gone, nothing restrains her. As she herself said, “love is weakness.” A loveless Cersei is a fearsome thing.”

Things Might Not Be So Easy For Dany As They Seem

got-ep9-8.10

In the same Deadline interview, Benioff and Weiss teased where all the other major characters on Game of Thrones‘s proverbial chessboard will be heading in Season Seven. Daenerys Targaryen might be coming to Westeros with a fleet, an army, Tyrion Lannister, and three dragons, but don’t expect things to go smoothly. After the showrunners listed all her strengths, they sarcastically seemed to teas, “What could possibly go wrong?”

4

Jon Snow Might Be Too Good To Rule

got-53.53

Last year I postulated on this very site that Jon Snow had proven himself to be a more capable and noble ruler than Daenerys Targaryen. He believes in high morals, being fair and honorable, and his courage alone inspires loyalty. This also makes him an earnest idiot destined to be screwed over by the people he trusts most.

Benioff and Weiss know this and it seems that they believe the answer is that Jon Snow can’t conquer the darkness alone. They also told Deadline: “The question will be whether an honorable man can overcome dishonorable enemies. As E.O. Wilson wrote, ‘Within a group, selfish individuals always win. But in contests between groups, groups of altruists always beat groups of selfish individuals.’ So Jon Snow better hope this is a contest between groups.”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kit Harington predicted that next season will be “bleak,” but he also stressed that this was pure conjecture! Fingers crossed we’ll at least see Jon Snow discover his true Targaryen parentage.

The Show Is Probably Not Returning to Braavos

got-fake-tyrion

Thrilled that Arya Stark finally made it back to Westeros last season? Looks like she’s staying put. A report from June suggests that the show will not be returning to Girona, Spain this season. That’s where they used to shoot Braavos and some of the big King’s Landing scenes that took place outside the Sept of Baelor (which went kaboom in the Season Six finale).

Get Ready For Some New Faces!

got-s3e8-tyrion-laughs

Game of Thrones fansite WatchersOnTheWall.com got their hands on casting calls for several new characters for Season Seven. Since this is the first season to take place far ahead of the books, even superfans are stumped about who some of these characters could be. They include:

  • A General (40-55 years old)
  • A Priest (60-something)
  • Warrior (35-45 years old)
  • Gate Guard (20-something, Note: he needs a Northern accent)
  • City Guard (30-something)
  • Merchant (40-something)
  • “Lovely Lady” (Pretty woman willing to be naked)
  • Young Lord (Late 20s)
  • Lieutenant (20-something, non-white)

Who could all these people be? Will we ever meet Harry the Heir? Merbauld? JON CONNINGTON??? If those names mean nothing to you, don’t worry about it. All you need to know is even more characters are invading Westeros. Click the link above for more details on the casting call!

'Game of Thrones' Won't Win Any Emmys In 2017

got-s6finale-tommen-window

Game of Thrones is poised to storm the 2016 Emmy Awards. The show received the most nominations of the year!  Twenty-three to be exact! However, we already know that they likely won’t be back next year. Why? Since HBO pushed the debut date for Season Seven back to mid-2017, the new episodes probably won’t be eligible for Emmy nominations. Shame! Shame!
