WHEN IS THE FIRST VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE?

The first and only vice presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence is tonight (Tuesday, October 4th) at 9:00 P.M. Eastern, live on location from Longwood University in Farmville, Va.

HOW LONG IS THE DEBATE SCHEDULED TO LAST?

The debate is scheduled to last for 90 minutes, concluding at 10:30 P.M. Eastern.

WHO IS THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE MODERATOR TONIGHT?

CBS News correspondent Elaine Quijano will moderate the debate. Quijano, who has covered both the Republican and Democratic national conventions for CBS, will be the first Asian American moderator for a general election debate. Quijano is 42 years old, which makes her the youngest moderator since 1988. She’s also the first digital news journalist to host a debate.

HOW WILL THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE BE STRUCTURED?

The debate will be divided into nine 10-minute segments. Following Quijano’s opening question, each candidate will have two minutes to respond.

HAVE ANY THIRD PARTY CANDIDATES BEEN INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DEBATE?

No. Neither the Green Party or Libertarian Party received enough poll support to qualify for tonight’s debate.

HOW DO I LIVE STREAM THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE?

While the presidential debate will be broadcast live on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, C-SPAN, and all cable news channels, there are a variety of ways to live stream the event. YouTube will be offering an assortment of different live stream feeds, including ones from PBS NewsHour, Fox News, Bloomberg, Telemundo, The Washington Post, and NBC News, which is embedded below.

CAN I LIVE STREAM THE DEBATE ON TWITTER?

Yes! Using the same live streaming system it uses for Thursday Night Football, Twitter is partnering with Bloomberg to live stream the debate. Beginning at 8:30 P.M. Eastern, you can stream the event at debates.twitter.com.

CAN I LIVE STREAM THE DEBATE ON FACEBOOK?

You certainly can. Facebook has partnered with ABC News to offer a live stream of the vice presidential debate.

CAN I LIVE STREAM THE DEBATE ON HULU?

Unfortunately, no. Hulu does not offer a live stream, but you will be able to watch the replay of the debate the following day.

THIS MIGHT BE A SILLY QUESTION, BUT IS IT TRUE I CAN STREAM THE DEBATE IN VIRTUAL REALITY?

You can! The future is now as NBC partnered with AltspaceVR to offer the debate in a virtual recreation of NBC’s Democracy Plaza in New York City. Viewers will appear as an avatar and will be able to interact with other users during the debate. If you’re interested, you have to use the AltspaceVR app, which will work with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Samsung Gear VR.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO LIVE STREAM THE DEBATE ON MY TV?

It is! You can watch tonight’s debate with a number of different devices.

ROKU

You can stream the debate for free on Roku through ABC News, Bloomberg TV (both through Bloomberg TV and via Pluto TV), NewsON, and CBS News channels. You can also watch through CNNgo with a participating pay TV subscription as well as CNN via Sling TV, but a subscription is required.

SLING TV

If you have a Sling TV account, you will be also able to stream the debate for free. If you don’t have an account, Sling TV is offering a free one-week trial of their Blue package service.

APPLE TV

Apple TV users can stream the debate on the ABC News, CBS News, CNBC, CNNgo, and PBS apps, or by using the Twitter livestream.

AMAZON FIRE

Amazon Fire subscribers have myriad options as well. They can stream the event on Twitter, CBS News, NBC News, Fox News, CNNgo, or YouTube.

WHAT IS THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE 2016 SCHEDULE?

This is the only scheduled vice presidential debate. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will debate on two more occasions. The second presidential debate, moderated by Anderson Cooper, will take place on Sunday, October 9 at 9:00 P.M. Eastern from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The third presidential debate, moderated by Chris Wallace, will happen on Wednesday, October 19 at 9:00 P.M. Eastern from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
