New York Comic Con kicked off four days of craziness this morning with thousands of fans lined up outside of the Javits Center in New York City. The first stop for many of these rabid fanboys and fangirls was at the Funko booth, where the creators of the wildly popular Pop! lines of merchandise. (How popular? Mark Robben, Funko’s director of marketing, told us that the business is set to clear $400 million in revenue in 2016.)

Decider is thrilled to be partnering with NYCC this year as the fest’s Official Correspondent, and our host Katie Linendoll got an EXCLUSIVE look at the Funko booth this morning before the gates opening and throngs of cosplayers stormed the convention room floor. You might think that the most popular exclusive toys this year would hail from a comic book franchise like Batman or Star Wars, but the line that everyone is freaking out about is Golden Girls. Yes, really! The show has been off the air for nearly 25 years, and three of the four castmembers are no longer alive, but you can’t sleep on the power of nostalgia.

“I think we did it as a passion project, and it’s blown up. It was on Good Morning America this week and Fred Savage had it on Live with Kelly and it’s just catching on.”

Betty White, holler at us!

Another obsessive fandom dominating this year’s New York Comic Con is Stranger Things, the Netflix series that many argued was the show of the summer. The runaway success of the program came as a surprise to just about everyone, including Netflix, who definitely didn’t anticipate that there would be such pent-up demand for merch.

Stranger Things is something we deeply covet. I really hope it’s gonna happen. We’re working with Netflix and maybe that’ll happen.”

While the deal with Netflix is still in the works, the fine folks at Funko went ahead and designed some concept art for Eleven (check out those Eggos!):

And, of course, the people’s champ, Barb:

Don’t think you’ve been left out, Stars Hollowheads! Funko announced on Twitter last week that they are actively developing a line of Gilmore Girls figures, as well. There’s no info yet on when they’re going on sale, but hopefully they’ll be available in time for our planned binge of Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life in November.
