Final Shots: Netflix Nabs Global SVOD Rights To Space Drama ‘The Expanse’

Netflix announced today that it has acquired global distribution rights to Syfy’s space drama The Expanse, which will now continue as a Netflix original series. Season 1 had premiered on Syfy in the U.S. in summer of 2015 with Season 2 slated for release in 2017.

According to Deadline, the first season of the 10-episode series will be made available to subscribers outside of North America and New Zealand as of November 3. Based on the international best-selling books of the same name, the series takes place 200 years into the future, after the solar system has been colonized by humans. It was developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who also executive produce, and stars Thomas Jane, Steven Strait, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie has joined the cast of the all new CBS All Access edition of The Good Wife, which will pick up one year after the events of the final broadcast episode according to a press release. Leslie will play the integral role of Diane’s goddaughter Maia in the SVOD original reboot, which is executive produced by Robert and Michelle King.

Netflix has ordered a yet-to-be-titled 4K Spanish-language comedy series from Mexican director Manolo Caro. The dark 13-episode original series centers around a dysfunctional Mexican family who own a flower shop and take in the children of the husband’s deceased mistress. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Amazon has announced an October 20 premiere date for its forthcoming Prime Video original movie, Love & Friendship. According to a press release the 2016 Sundance Film Festival premiere is based on the Jane Austen novella, Lady Susan, and stars Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny.
