Final Shots: Netflix’s ‘Anne of Green Gables’ Remake Has Cast Its Anne Shirley

Netflix has cast fourteen-year-old Irish Canadian actress Amybeth McNulty in the lead role of orphan Anne Shirley for its forthcoming remake of the 1985 film, Anne of Green Gables. Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s timeless novel of the same name, the eight-episode drama series titled Anne will debut in 2017.

The streaming platform has partnered with Canada’s CBC on the original series, which is written by Emmy Award winner Moira Walley-Beckett. According to Deadline, Geraldine James and R.H. Thomson have also been cast in the series, which is currently in production in Ontario, Canada c/o Northwood Entertainment. Nick Caro will direct the two-hour premiere episode.
