Final Shots: Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Casts Sean Astin, Paul Reiser For Season 2

Netflix has announced three new cast members for Season 2 of the platform’s original sci-fi series, Stranger Things. Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, and Linnea Berthelsen will all be featured in the forthcoming season of the popular drama series helmed by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Astin will play Bob Newby, the manager of the town’s local RadioShack who is a former high school classmate of Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour). Reiser will play Dr. Owens, a Department of Energy bigwig who will attempt to quell the aftermath of last season’s incidents. Berthelsen will play Roman, a traumatized young woman who lives outside of Hawkins but is somehow linked to the lab. Season 2 will premiere on Netflix in 2017.

Sling TV has announced that it will offer a free preview of its Sling Orange service, plus the News Extra add-on, for Election Day. According to a press release, free access will run from 9am ET Tuesday, November 8 through 4am ET Wednesday, November 9, allowing viewers to watch pre- and post-coverage of the U.S. Election from CNN, Bloomberg Television, TheBlaze, HLN, and more.

During a recent interview, Ricky Gervais revealed the release date for David Brent: Life on the Road, which will stream exclusively via Netflix on February 10, 2017. The actor/comedian also elaborated on his push for Netflix and how his decision “makes great business sense.” [Business Insider]

Marvel’s The Defenders, the forthcoming Netflix original merger series, has confirmed that Elodie Yung has been added to the show’s growing cast. Yung portrays Electra in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil, the platform’s very first Marvel project. [Twitter]

PBS will release its popular kids series Odd Squad digitally via their short-form video streaming service, OddTube. The series will stream via the SVOD app, as well as PBS Kids’ YouTube channel and pbskids.org, with new episodes released each week from November 10, 2016 through March 23, 2017. [Variety]

Amazon has revealed the official trailer for Season 3 of Prime Video original dramedy, Mozart in the Jungle. The two-minute clip centers on Rodrigo as he conducts renowned opera singer Alessandra in her Venice comeback concert. All new episodes of the half-hour series will premiere on December 9:
