EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was originally published on August 25, 2015. With the news that Donald Trump is our nation’s current President-elect, it looks like this prophecy from The Simpsons came true, albeit 10 years early.

The Simpsons has long been one of the smartest shows on television and The Washington Post reports that it may also be psychic. Reddit has resurrected a timely joke from a 2000 episode called “Bart to the Future” (which you can watch on SimpsonsWorld.com). The episode jumped ahead to the year 2030, where Lisa was the nation’s first “straight female president.” Her predecessor? None other than President Donald Trump.

According to The Simpsons, Lisa hasn’t just inherited the post of president from the famed entrepreneur; she’s also taking over the massive debt he incurred. The United States of America is broke because Trump invested in our children. “Big mistake,” says a middle-aged Milhouse. Another explains, “The balanced breakfast program just created a generation of ultra-strong super criminals.” Milhouse adds, “And midnight basketball taught them to function without sleep.”

Trump also apparently borrowed money from every other country in the world. We’ll never know what else Trump did wrong as president in this fictional future because Bart storms in, followed by a couple of angry Secret Service men.

If he does win the presidency, let’s hope that Trump doesn’t make the same mistakes as his cartoon alter-ego. After all, I want to see Lisa’s bookmobile dream come to life.
