What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re spotlighting Derailed, a new late-night talk show that takes place on the New York subway.
What if you were accosted by a charismatic talk show host when you hopped aboard the L train? It seems like that might be a very real possibility now that Derailed has begun – and it’s too fun to ignore. Hosted by Dean Dimitruk, who we’ve previously profiled for his hilarious work with Petal Stone Comedy, Derailed is created by Dimitruk and Danielle Dweck, and directed by Adam Centrella.
Armed with an amazing head of hair, a fold-out desk, and two (empty) coffee mugs, Dimitruk makes his way onto the train and urges the commuters to clap and for music from his house band, Jeremy (one guy with bongo drums). He eventually finds his first guest, Karolina, and asks her questions like what age she was when she lost her virginity and plays a game that involves eating warheads every time someone guesses if an actor was in a war movie. It all comes to an exciting close with a grand prize – a picture of his friend’s niece.
The end of the first episode gives us a sneak peak of what’s ahead – Camera Roll Roulette, naming states based on their geographical sketches, and more absurd antics. What makes the show so great is that it’s genuine fun – when’s the last time we’ve gotten a glimpse of that? We can’t wait to see what tricks Dimitruk has up his sleeve – commuters, beware!
