Powered by Reelgood

It’s one of the hardest choices of the holiday season: what to watch with the whole family. For those of us with teens and kiddos in the extended family tree, that decision can be even harder. You want something tame enough for the children, but not dull enough to bore the grown ups.

Well, Decider is here to help. We’ve combed through Netflix’s extensive library and found the Top 10 Family Films on Netflix right now. (Warning some of these are safe for the littlest kiddies and some of them are best for tweens and up.)

If you have kids in the house, chances are they are already well-acquainted with Disney’s spring hit. This crowd-pleasing film about overcoming prejudice (and our own deeply rooted biases) will make the little ones happy and amuse the grown ups with its wit. Also, you know, its message about reaching across lines might help smooth things out amongst the relatives who voted for opposite sides this election year. [Watch Zootopia on Netflix]

This lavish adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s classic fantasy novel pits four World War II-era kids against an evil witch. The opulent epic is a perfect kick off for the Christmas season and a wonderful opportunity to bask in the glory that is Tilda Swinton. (I mean, it’s never too soon to introduce the kids to Swinton, right?) [Watch The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe on Netflix]

The charm of this flick will cut across generations. Warning: the cursed zombie pirates might send some spooked kids hiding behind the sofa. Pee-wee’s back! Netflix brought Paul Reuben’s delightfully daffy, forever enchanting character back this year with the brand new film Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. This time he’s not looking for his stolen red bicycle; He’s trying to find a way to get to New York City so he can attend his new friend Joe Manganiello’s birthday party. (Yes, Joe Manganiello plays himself.) [Watch Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday on Netflix]

Wes Anderson’s ode to young, romantic dreamers might not be appropriate for the primary school set, but it’s a beautiful way to introduce your older kids and more precocious tots to more artful cinema. Anderson’s quirky style is visually arresting and his scripts are full of the kinds of smart jokes that will be sure to get the grownups chortling. [Watch Moonrise Kingdom on Netflix]
