We finally know. Back in 2006 when show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino left the show in its sixth season, she revealed one secret that has haunted Gilmore Girls fans for years. Sherman-Palladino had a plan for the final four words of the show that threatened to change Stars Hollow history. Now, almost a decade later, we finally know what those words are. Major spoilers ahead for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Released on Netflix this morning, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is a four part series that follows everyone’s favorite mother-daughter couple through one big year. When it was on the air, Gilmore Girls had a steady but not too impressive following. However, reruns that aired on ABC Family paired with new fans who discovered the show on streaming have turned the sweet, fast-talking series about family and love into a bit of a phenomenon. Securing the series for a reboot was a solid move on Netflix’s part, and if early response to the series is any indication, it’s a move that fans have appreciated. Gilmore Girls’ final season was largely criticized by both fans and critics, mostly for lacking Sherman-Palladino expert touch. But now thanks to Netflix we can all pretend that last season didn’t exist.

So what are those final four words that have kept fans debating for years? In the final moments of “Fall,” Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) sit side-by-side, Lorelai contemplating the aftermath of her long-awaited wedding to Luke and Rory reflecting on her own failed relationships. During those final moments, Rory turns to Lorelai and asks, “Mom?”

“Yeah?” Lorelai responds.

“I’m pregnant.”

And boom goes the pop culture dynamite. Fan response to the reveal has been mixed, with both #GilmoreGirlsRevivial and #LastFourWords trending. Some fans are losing it:

Some are hoping that huge reveal means there will be more Lorelai and Rory in our future:

Some are just in shock:

And some diehard fans haven’t even seen the ending yet:

If you’re friends with a Gilmore Girl, please be kind to them this weekend. They need the support.
