“It’s boring to be good all the time and I think Hailey does get to do things that are questionable at times,” Lola Kirke announced, speaking about her character at the recent press day for the third season of the Amazon original series, Mozart in the Jungle. We couldn’t agree more, which is why Lola is without a doubt our Woman Crush Wednesday this week.
The new season of Mozart in the Jungle arrives on Amazon this Friday, December 9th, and it’s perhaps the best one yet for both Lola and her character Hailey. There is international travel and new professional adventures and yes, some romance. But don’t you dare compare Hailey and Rodrigo (Gael Garcia Bernal) to one of the most popular will they/won’t they relationships of our time.
“Oh my God, someone just called us the Ross and Rachel of Amazon and I was so not pleased,” Lola said. Perhaps it’s because you’ll see many sides of her character’s relationship with the maestro this season, just as we’ve seen many sides to her talent so far.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Lola Kirke

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Lola is the kind of actress who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She revealed, “I have an issue with the idea that all women represented on film should be role models. I don’t think that’s very true,” which is why viewers find the women she plays so relatable and interesting to watch. She’s able to portray women who are growing up, learning, and are vulnerable along the way, while also remaining bold, confident, and sticking to their guns. In the past few years, she’s seen her career take off with no sign of slowing down.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: You may have first spotted Lola in 2014’s One Song with Anne Hathaway. She followed that up as Greta in Gone Girl, and appeared in The Leftovers pilot as well. Viewers also loved her as a smartypants college student opposite Greta Gerwig in Mistress America. Mozart in the Jungle kicks off its third season this week, and she’s already spent two full seasons doing such a good job at portraying Hailey, the millennial oboist, that fans are constantly dazzled by her skills with the instrument…or so they think. “I get asked if I play the oboe a lot, which I like, but then I disappoint when I say no, I don’t, and I really don’t play the oboe,” she explained.
WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER NEXT: After you binge Mozart, you’ll be able to find Lola all over the place in 2017. She’s got the drama Untogether with Jamie Dornan and Alice Eve coming up, as well as the thriller American Made with Tom Cruise and Domhnall Gleeson, due out in September. Plus, she will also star alongside Zoe Kravitz, playing her assistant, in next year’s Gemini which sounds amazing already.
