As we look back on this past year in pop culture, we can’t help be remember the backsides we liked looking at best. Introducing the list you’ve secretly been waiting for: the best butts of 2016 film and television.
From empowering instances of nudity to surprisingly sexy hookups, this has been an all around all-star year for backie boos (my mother’s word for butts). To celebrate these extraordinary buns, we’ve made a list of some of the best behinds. In order for a butt to be considered for this list, it has to be either 1) important to the corresponding show or movie, 2) hilarious, or 3) super sexy. A lot of these selections are a combination of all three! Flip through the steamy selections below, but be warned. Almost all of these are NSFW. Happy holidays everyone!
Josh’s Sex Toy in ‘Man Seeking Woman’
There is really no show that articulates how weird relationships are. In Season Two, Josh (Jay Baruchel) needs a little help pleasing his lady, so he goes to a sex shop. What his girlfriend of the week brings home isn’t an innocent feather or a pair of handcuffs – it’s a giant, muscled adult man designed to plow her. You really get a sense of how emasculated this “toy” makes Josh feel. Also? Watching Baruchel awkwardly hold onto a thrusting butt is really funny.
The Gold-Medal Buns of the 2016 Olympics
Obviously, the main reason to watch the Olympics is to see a group of highly trained athletes perform amazing feats you will never be able to accomplish. There’s also the national pride, cultural pressure, and because you want to have something to talk about with co-workers. But we all have a secret reason why we love the Olympics – it give the world an excuse to stare at the fittest people in the planet wearing Spandex. 10 out of 10.
Jack’s Birthday Buns in ‘This Is Us’
Probably the most shocking way to start a series is with two exposed cheeks, and that’s exactly how this NBC dramedy started. In the pilot episode of This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia bared all save for a towel as he celebrated his 36th birthday with his very pregnant wife. This backside set the show’s sweetly sincere and authentic tone.
‘Fleabag’s Possibly Massive A-Hole
Technically, a butt was never shown in the first episode of this hilariously vulgar British comedy, but Fleabag’s (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) first onscreen romp set the tone for the entire show. After letting her 2 a.m. hookup do something a little less than vanilla, Fleabag wonders aloud about her own butt. Not only is it laugh-out-loud funny, it may be one of the best series introductions of 2016.
Jimmy’s Great Butt in ‘Looking: The Movie’
The finale of HBO’s show about the nuances of gay relationships in San Francisco was met with mixed reviews but was largely praised by fans. However, the movie’s one and only sex scene was given a thumbs up by basically everyone. After Patrick (Jonathan Groff) returns to town, he hooks up with the 22-year-old Jimmy (Michael Rosen). The sex is simultaneously erotic, funny, and awkward, a delicate and subtle line Looking played with well. Also, damn, those buns.
Luke Cage and Reva Connors’ Hookup in ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’
Oh Reva. Your time in our streaming lives was and is far too brief. Though we already know the fate of Mr. Cage’s wife (Parisa Fitz-Henley), Reva was a haunting presence throughout the show’s freshman season. However, it’s Reva and Luke Cage’s (Mike Colter) first steamy hookup that earns them a spot on this memorable buns list.
O.J.’s Freshly Showered Butt in ‘The People vs. O.J. Simpson’
This wasn’t one of the sexist butts of the year, but it was certainly one of the most memorable. After 10 episodes filled with tense courtroom battles, intense accusations, and David Schwimmer yelling the word “Juice,” O.J. (Cuba Gooding Jr.) came out of the shower naked, having finally been allowed to return home. It was a brief moment of peace for this controversial public figure as well as one of the only moments of nudity on the show. Also? Cuba butt!

Daniel and Issa’s Adulterous Butts in ‘Insecure’
Most of Insecure’s freshman season hinged on the will-they, won’t-they between the not-single Issa (Issa Rae) and her ex-boyfriend Daniel (Y’lan Noel). It was clear that Issa and Daniel were totally going to have sex, but DAMN. No one expected things to get as steamy as they did.
‘Deadpool’s Year of Sexytimes and Ryan Reynolds’ Everything
Weirdly, Wade (Ryan Reynolds) and Vanessa’s (Morena Baccarin) relationship may have been one of the sweetest fictional relationships of 2016, but their sex scenes were anything but sweet. In a funny montage, Deadpool documented the couple’s many bedroom forays, from vampire teeth oral sex to pegging. We saw a lot of these two actors, and even more of Reynolds, who later bared it all for the camera.
Tom Hiddleston - er - Jonathan’s butt in ‘The Night Manager’
We got to see Hiddle-booty this year! Not only that, we had a Hiddle-buns controversy. BBC’s critically-acclaimed and award-winning miniseries premiered in America with one major difference — there were no buns. You can still see booty in the online version of the episode, but the version AMC televised was free of this scandalous shot.
Christine Reade’s Everything in ‘The Girlfriend Experience’
Based on Steven Soderbergh’s film of the same name, this anthology drama follows the life of a law intern who becomes a high-end escort on the side, played by Riley Keough. The series takes a bare-all approach to sex, showing its protagonist masturbating, going to the gynecologist, and of course having sex with clients. It’s a series unafraid to take an uncomfortably personal look into the public and very private moments of one sex worker, and Keough is amazing in the role.
The All-Star Buns of ‘Easy’
Joe Swanberg’s Netflix series about the complexities of sex was often a bumpy but authentic-feeling ride. However, what made this sex comedy stand out is its all-star cast, which was placed in a variety of sexy and awkward situations. Do you want to see a scantily clad Orlando Bloom struggle through a threesome? What about Kiersey Clemons getting very intimate with a stranger? Marc Maron dealing with the fallout from a one night stand? You can watch all of this and more, but Bloom wins our bum award.
Thomasin’s Nudity in ‘The Witch’
It’s hard to tell if Anya Taylor-Joy’s ending nude scene is more empowered or another form of oppression, but either way it’s incredibly important and incredibly creepy butt. Not to give too much away, in the movie’s final scenes, our wide-eyed protagonist bares all to accept her supernatural-leaning fate. Black Phillip and this moment have haunted our dreams all year.
All - And We Mean All - of 50 Cent in ‘Power’
If there was an annual television nudity award, STARZ’s Power would likely win it every year. The show about a corrupt club owner takes every other sex scene in the industry, laughs at its face, and then raises it to the next level. This year, the steamy original featured 50 Cent’s butt AND junk. Was the ensuing fight between the star / rapper and the show’s creator real or just a PR stunt? Who knows! But Power helped make our streaming lives steamier.
Daenerys’ Empowered Nudity in ‘Game of Thrones’
Weirdly for a Game of Thrones pick, this may be the least sexualized butt on the list. After going Vaes Dothrak and giving the khals a firm dressing down, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) tells them all exactly what will go down: They will all die, and she will rule the Dothraki. And that’s exactly what happens. Technically, the scene doesn’t include a Dany butt zoom in, but because this is a list essentially about the best nudity of the year, you knew this fiery queen was going to make an appearance.
‘Westworld’s Golden Orgy Butts
Because the hosts are always naked when they’re being repaired, it’s hard to narrow down a best butts from the HBO series’ many, many cheeks. However, purely from a bottom focus, Episode Five wins the award for best buns. I have three words for you: gold painted orgy. Really, what more could you want?
