We’re still almost three months away from Disney releasing their live-action remake ofBeauty and the Beast, but now audio has leaked of Emma Watson singing a bit of “Something There” from the film’s second half. This leak apparently comes from audio included in a Beauty and the Beast singing Belle toy that is already on the shelves.

Despite the fact that there have already been multiple trailers for the spring blockbuster  — and it’s going to be a blockbuster; Disney has been raking it in with their recent trend of live-action remakes of their animated classics, which have included MaleficentCinderella, and The Jungle Book — none of the advance footage has included any of the songs. What the trailers do suggest is an exceedingly faithful adaptation of the 1991 original, to be the point of being a shot-for-shot recreation. But what they haven’t shown as of yet has been any of the singing; not from Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, or any of the rest of its starry cast (Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Stanley Tucci, Kevin Kline, Audra McDonald). It’s been an odd choice to hide the fact that this Beauty and the Beast is a musical, considering that everybody is so familiar with the very musical original. So you wonder if the shell game has been to hide the vocal limitations of the leads. Have a listen for yourself.

Watson’s voice is never going to be compared to Paige O’Hara’s from the original (note how clipped she is at the end there), but given the lower standards we have for movie stars taking lead roles in movies, she’ll probably be just fine. Of course, this is merely two lines of sung dialogue. The proof will be in the pudding right from the beginning, when Watson belts out “Belle” in the film’s opening moments.
