The year 2016 has been an endurance test of gargantuan proportions; there’s no other way to slice it. Here at Decider, though, we’ve spent the bulk of the past month trying to stay positive by focusing in on the year’s most memorable moments: the best movies, best television shows, best documentaries, the best LOLs, and yes, even the best butts. I think we can all agree that’s a lot of best!

That said, the end of the year is also a natural time for reflection. A time for us to look back at our favorite television series and acknowledge that not every character we loved (or loved to hate) will still be with us in 2017. A slew of beloved shows killed off a slew of beloved characters* in 2016, and Decider would like to use this opportunity to tip our proverbial caps in their direction. (As you have probably garnered by now, the video above contains some fairly heavy spoilers.)

In 2016, it didn’t matter if your character was a textbook supporting character (see: House Of Cards, The Americans), a beloved fan favorite (see: The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones), or even the bedrock of your entire show (see: Bates Motel, Narcos) — it seemed as if no character was guaranteed to avoid the showrunner’s scythe.

So, please, get your 40s ready: It’s time to pour one out for 2016’s fallen homies. May you all rest in peace. HODOR!

*And a few that were beloathed, too (if that’s even a word).
