All Of The Christopher Reeve ‘Superman’ Films Are Now on Netflix

Good news for fans of the Golden Age of superhero cinema: the original blockbuster comic book movie saga is now streaming on Netflix. Christopher Reeve‘s four Superman films — Superman, Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace — and their spiritual sequel, Superman Returns, just hit the popular streaming site today. Now is the perfect time to indulge in a bit of nostalgia or to introduce a new generation to the classic films.

Juilliard-trained actor Christopher Reeve had a refreshing, intrinsic earnestness that made Superman feel less like a superhuman and more like, well, a human. Because Reeve was so perfect in the part, his shadow has hung over every subsequent attempt at the role. In 2006, director Bryan Singer tried to recapture the magic of Reeve’s run with Superman Returns. That film is sometimes considered to be the “real” sequel to Superman II and Singer used footage of Marlon Brando from the original films to establish a sort of continuity. Unfortunately for Brandon Routh, his Superman never managed to snare the same hype as Reeve’s iconic turn.
