Afternoon Delight: This ‘Barry’ Is Not About The President, But Rather, Cocaine

What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re spotlighting Barry, a short film about a thoughtful cocaine dealer who takes his business to the world wide web. (Note: Don’t get this confused with the other Barry, the Netflix film about the early days of Barack Obama!)

Barry Berkins is a stand-up guy who runs a fair and honest business, except for the fact that his business is dealing cocaine. He deals exclusively in person from his favorite bench in Sherman Park, passing out his product wrapped in tissue paper with a ribbon from a cooler he may otherwise have taken on a picnic. When a new customer suggests he take his business to Facebook, Barry’s customer base expands – and so does word about his drug dealing prowess. Once things get too crazy, Barry decides to get out of the game and return to his love of carpentry – but is it too little too late?

Written and directed by Jay Rondot and starring Pete Gardner (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), this sharp little short sets itself apart from the rest with its strong cast of characters and nuanced voice. Barry is worth every single one of its nine minutes, and it somehow manages to simultaneously bring out the laughs and tug at your heartstrings.
