6 Situations We’re Terrified Will Happen in Season 2 of ‘The Path’

Hulu’s original series The Path returns for season 2 tomorrow, and I for one, am nervous. If you need a quick lil’ refresher (aka spoilers!) on where the show left off in season 1: Eddie (Aaron Paul) and Sarah (Michelle Monaghan) are essentially separated, and he moves out of the house, refusing to sign a paper that says he is denying the Meyerist movement the family and their upstate NY community all belong to. Sarah is going to team up to lead the group with Cal (Hugh Dancy) who has been writing rungs of the ladder all by himself, even though we discover that Dr. Steve Meyer is, in fact, not comatose. Oh, and this is all while Detective Gaines (Rockmond Dunbar) is (deep) undercover with the movement, trying to expose them to the feds.

It’s a lot, right? Which is why the anticipation is building like crazy for tomorrow’s premiere (the first two episodes will drop on Hulu). Where things will go from here is anyone’s guess, but we know where we DON’T want things to go, for sure. These are the 6 things we are really, really worried about for season 2.

1

Hawk won't be set free

Sarah and Eddie’s teenage son Hawk (Kyle Allen) is having a rough go of it. He’s got school, girls, and his parents’ divorce stressing him out, on top of the fact that he has to figure out his relationship with Meyerism. Too much drama for a teen! Towards the end of season 1, Cal bribed Hawk’s girlfriend Ashley to break up with him, obviously devastating the high schooler. Confused doesn’t begin to explain what this dude is feeling. But he’s a genuinely good kid! Especially in a sea of questionable adults, viewers have a soft spot in their heart for Hawk, which we can only hope doesn’t get hardened over this season.

Cal and Sarah get together

This has been brewing for a while. While the two were a couple back in the day, he’s been pining for her ever since she’s been with Eddie. He’s tried his damn best to wiggle his way back into her heart, by forcing his way into her life. Now that the two are leading the movement, he’ll definitely be making a play for her. We can only hope that Sarah listens to her gut and her nose, because this woman knows when she smells some BS, and Cal sure has stepped directly in it.

3

Cal and any other woman get together

Even a smart woman like Sarah is no match for Cal’s manipulations. But someone even more naive, even more vulnerable, and even more desperate than her is in incredible danger in Cal’s hands. Last season Cal and his recruit Mary (Emma Greenwell) had the most complicated of relationships: he both rejected and accepted sex from her, he protected her and pushed her away, and he set her up with another man, only to turn around and cause her to be unfaithful to him. This dude is bad news. To the women of the Meyerist movement: please find it inside of yourselves to resist his smile and his charms. We fully understand how hard that can be, but it’s for your own good.

4

Eddie is left out

Now that Eddie and Sarah have split, he’s the one who has moved out, who has limited time with his kids, and who will hardly see his friends, even as he figures out what his involvement with the movement will be. It will be a bummer to see him all mopey around his family, but it will be exciting to watch him get to the bottom of whatever is going on with Meyerism. Just, everyone please be nice to him and don’t treat him like a disgusting outsider, ok?

5

Eddie is the real leader of the cult

Even scarier than Eddie being left out? Him being all the way IN. Signs are starting to point to the fact that there might be something special about him, that he might understand the Meyerism movement even better than some its devotees. From his special visions, to the fact that he happened to be around Detective Gaines’ sick daughter when she got better, could he have a “light” he’s not quite aware of yet? Oh no, how would Cal react to this?

6

The cult is found out

Speaking of Detective Gaines, this guy is not letting anything get in the way of his investigation of the movement. Well, except possibly for his change of heart about the religion and the people in it… But he seems ultra determined to bust them wide open to the feds. We’d like for that to not be the case. After all, we’re gonna need a third season of the Hulu original.
