Trevor Noah: Afraid of the Dark

South African comedian and host of The Daily Show took to the stage at the New York Comedy Festival and filmed this 77-minute set in a pre-Trump America, and his jokes still manage to pack a punch with the same charm he coasts through his weeknight Comedy Central slot. Employing a plethora of accents, anecdotes, and general ideas about the world, Noah’s bound to convert any non-believers still pining for the days of Jon Stewart into devoted new Daily Show fans.

Sausage Party

While the release of this R-rated animated comedy was overshadowed by controversy, the Seth Rogen-helmed story of a sausage and other food products discovering the truth of their existence is cleverly crude and ridiculously entertaining. Inventive and offensive on multiple levels, the attention to detail makes Sausage Party stand out among all the other crass comedies out there.

10 Cloverfield Lane

This thrilling nail-biter directed by Dan Tratchenberg and produced by J.J. Abrams follows a young woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who is held in an underground shelter with two men (John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr.) who tell her that the world is under chemical attack and unsafe to go out into. Claustrophobic, unpredictable, and featuring a close to career-best performance from Goodman, this taut sci-fi thriller is one watch away from being your new favorite flick.
