Is anyone else feeling like it would be nice to have some Winter Olympics right about now? How fun it would be for the country to come together to cheer for our athletes on ice and snow and other various freezing locations? Well, you’re not alone.
While we’ll have to wait another year for winter games, you can still feel the thrill in your heart from a perfect ice skating routine or a puck sliding into the hockey goal at the buzzer. These five movies (with a couple of bonus movies in there too!) about winter sports should do a pretty good job of holding you over until the 2018 games, or at least until it gets a bit warmer outside.
From a group of courageous youngsters to some of the most ridiculous adults you’ll ever watch on-screen, these films continue to prove it’s not about age, but about the fire in your heart and the pure determination that drives you to compete. Maybe don’t watch these in a super cold place because the tears will freeze on your face. Oh, and they will stream. The inspiration is undeniable, and with these movies, you’ll get quite a few chuckles in along the way too.
'Eddie The Eagle'
Taron Egerton truly shines as Eddie, the first British ski-jumper, who might be a little bit nerdy but a lot courageous. You’ll feel those bruises during his practice jumps, and you’ll feel the happiness when he perseveres. Hugh Jackman is also great (even if the same cannot be said for his haircut) and it’s impossible not to smile your way through this sweet story.
'Blades of Glory'
When you need a break from the tearjerkers, turn to this Will Ferrell-Jon Heder comedy, although we can’t guarantee it won’t bring to to laughing tears. The two comedic actors star as a figure skating pair that must learn to work together to defeat their rivals, played by Amy Poehler and Will Arnett. The outfits are as ridiculous as the jokes here, but there is room for sentimental in between the silly. Oh, and the moves on the ice are pretty sweet too.
'The Mighty Ducks'
You know how much you loved The Mighty Ducks as a kid? Well, you’ll love it just as much as adult. You’ll want Emilio Estevez to be your coach, and find a young Joshua Jackson so darn adorable! If you want the stakes to be just a bit higher, check out 1994’s D2: The Mighty Ducks, when Gordon Bombay returns to coach Team USA. And if that’s still not enough pressure for you, go for Miracle, the 2004 film that chronicles the U.S. Olympic hockey team’s matchup with Russia in the 1980 Olympics. That’s a lot of hockey!

'Cool Runnings'
Those damn Disney movies will get you every time, and this one is no exception. The heartwarming movie about a disqualified Jamaican sprinter who starts the first Jamaican Bobsled Team will put a smile on your face and thaw even the coldest of hearts.
'The Cutting Edge'
Do you know what’s better than a rom-com? A rom-com on ice, of course. The theme of athletes trying out a new sport stays strong with this one, as a former hockey player and a figure skater team up to go for the gold, both falling on the ice and in love along the way.
