Being a bridesmaid is SUCH an honor! You get to stand next to one of your best friends, someone you’ve presumably known for years, and watch them take the next big, beautiful step in their life.
It’s also a total pain in the ass. The money, the dress, the planning, the demanding emails, the shower, the bachelorette party: everything right down to drunkenly ripping those false eyelashes off your eyelids at the end of the night can be a bit rough. Again, you’re happy to be there for your friend after months of planning and Pinteresting; we’re just saying it can be A LOT.

'Bridesmaids'
Bridesmaids is responsible for leading the revolution of female comedies due to the fact that it made major bank and was a critical success. But it also just completely nails what it’s like to be a bridesmaid, truly honoring its title. Kristen Wiig will forever be our hero for punching her way through a cookie at the bridal shower, and from picking out the dresses to making sentimental toasts gone awry, this movie captures the moments and the feelings we’ve all been through. Hopefully not the food poisoning though.
'27 Dresses'
In Katherine Heigl’s finest work to date, she perfectly portrays a trustworthy gal named Jane who must don yet another damn bridesmaid dress, except this time it’s for her sister who happens to be marrying the man Jane has been crushing on for years. Oh, hell no. From this film, please learn what NOT to do, from not speaking up for yourself to saying so much you sabotage the whole wedding (which was a sham to begin with, but still). Also, be on the lookout for a hunky wedding reporter!
'My Best Friend's Wedding'
For as much as dedicating months of your life to help someone with their wedding can be a drag, you did say yes. And this is probably someone you think is pretty ok. Imagine being asked to be a maid of honor just days before the wedding, and for someone you don’t know or like or want to see with the groom because you’re kinda in love with him yourself? Julia Roberts gives it her best shot, but maid of honor duties plus trying to break up a couple is A LOT to take on at once.
'Bride Wars'
The thing about being a bridesmaid is that it’s not quite as bad as being the bride. Yes, it’s her special day and she is a princess and all that stuff. But she just went through a year of stress from her man, his family, her own family, and probably even a slew of Facebook friends in the process. As Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway demonstrate here, there’s a lot going on. All you have to do as a bridesmaid is show up and look nice until you can get your dance on at the reception.
'Wedding Crashers'
Look, we’ve done some wedding shit-talking already, so let’s get to the fun part with a little help from Wedding Crashers. Being a bridesmaid opens up a world of possibilities, namely the gentlemen guests in attendance. While there’s a lot of lead-up to the big day, it’s important to remember that it IS a big ol’ party. Get you a pair of those flats you can fit in your clutch and get ready to tear it up on the dance floor. You never know who you’ll meet, invited or otherwise.

The moral of this story is stay far, far away from the bride’s dress. Don’t get your bodily fluids on it or have anything to do with ruining it in any way. And also, maybe try to reel it in during the bachelorette party? It’s great to have a good time, but these gals take it to another level.
'Revenge of the Bridesmaids'
Revenge of the Bridesmaids is a fun flick that borrows a few themes from My Best Friend’s Wedding — apparently there are a lot of weddings to break up? But these girls have good reason, and this movie serves as a fun reminder of what a good time it can be when you come together with a handful of gal pals to complete a mission.
'Rachel Getting Married'
This movie tackles the darker side of family gatherings, so much so that there’s a pretty solid chance the wedding you’re in won’t be quite as awkward as this one. No one needs any extra drama, so remember to be a good pal/sister to the bride for this one day. Someday she’ll return the favor.
'Made of Honor'
As long as no one in the wedding party is harboring deep feelings of love for either of the people getting married, you should be able to look forward to a fairly easy wedding process. Made of Honor is a fantastic example of why you should keep your bridesmaids to a small, simple group that won’t try to hijack your relationship, even if it is justified. You could’ve spoke up sooner, Dempsey.
'The Wedding Date'
The best part of being a bridesmaid is that you’re busy! If you don’t already have a date, you don’t have time to worry about bringing one and making him feel comfortable with your friends all night. And you certainly don’t need to be paying for a date. Enjoy your bridesmaid responsibilities, which include: helping the bride get ready for her day, and then being the life of the party later on.
