This weekend, a TON of new titles are hitting your favorite streaming platforms. April’s kicking things off with everything you could possibly need to ensure that your streaming is of the highest caliber. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO, Showtime, STARZ, and other streaming services have added a bunch of original series, comedy favorites, and blockbuster gems.
Looking to satisfy your mumblecore cravings? Joe Swanberg‘s latest, Win It All, is now available to stream on Netflix, and features a career-best performance from New Girl‘s Jake Johnson. If you’re feeling a little darker, the entire first season of Preacher is now available to stream on Hulu. Abortion: Stories Women Tell is streaming on HBO, and it’s bound to leave you reeling and give light to a controversial issue. Whatever your needs may be, these platforms know just what it takes to make sure you have the best streaming weekend ever.

Louis C.K.: 2017

He’s back, wearing suits, and better than ever. On track with the other amazing stand-up specials hitting Netflix this year, comedian Louis C.K. debuted his own this week, the first of his two planned originals with the platform. CK has always delivered the crudest, craziest, most enjoyable comedy in his stand-up specials in the past, and the latest from the Louie star tackles topics like abortion, suicide, and Magic Mike. We didn’t think it was possible for him to be any better than he already was, but somehow, he completely surpasses expectations.

American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story

This original series chronicles the life of Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner through the use of cinematic reenactments, archival footage, and interviews. American Playboy takes us through the founding of the magazine and the construction of Hefner’s empire over 60 years, as well as his fight for social justice and civil rights. Hefner’s life and career may seem like pretty common knowledge at this point – he’s overexposed, to say the least – but the deep dive this docuseries takes into his legacy is truly revelatory and fascinating.

War Dogs

Two unsuspecting dude-bros (Miles Teller and Jonah Hill) happen to get a $300 million contract from the Pentagon so that they can arm the American allies in Afghanistan in this big-budget black comedy from Todd Phillips (The Hangover). While based on a true story, the flick is heavily fictionalized (and because of this, we get a lot more laughs). The rookie arms dealers’ task does not prove to be nearly as simple as they assume it to be, and inevitably, chaos ensues. While there’s not anything particularly fresh about this flick, it’s still provides some funny moments and an all-around good time.
