Hooray for Wednesday! The week is chugging along, but before we get to party time, we like to take a moment mid-week to shoutout one of our favorite leading ladies. This week, we’re placing the Woman Crush Wednesday spotlight on an actress it’s nearly impossible not to become obsessed with as soon as you lay your eyes on her.

Samira Wiley immediately stood out, even amongst that killer cast, when Orange Is The New Black debuted on Netflix in 2013. Since then, she’s continued to slide into roles that are as interesting as she is.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Samira Wiley

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Samira has taken a variety of roles that come with intrigue, critical acclaim, and fan satisfaction. We’ve gotten to see the outgoing, the silly, the smart, and even the reserved sides to her talent and what she can bring on-screen. She’s the kind of actress that will give you giggles and tears and also the best kind of mystery when it comes to which you can expect from her next. Your eyes are drawn to her as soon as she’s on-screen, and it stays that way until she leaves and you can’t help but wonder when she’s coming back.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: You’ve seen Samira on shows such as Unforgettable, Person of Interest, and The Catch, but she first made a splash in the Jonah Hill film The Sitter in 2011. She followed that up with a role in Being Flynn starring Robert De Niro and Paul Dano, no biggie, and 2014’s Rob The Mob with Ray Romano and Michael Pitt. In 2016, Samira starred in the drama 37, which is not to be missed, as well as Nerve, the technology thriller with Dave Franco and Emma Roberts.

She joined the cast of Orange Is The New Black in 2013 as inmate Poussey Washington and stayed on for four seasons, getting a lot of buzz for her work in her final season last year. After that, she transitioned over to the dark comedy You’re The Worst, taking on the unenviable role of Gretchen’s (Aya Cash) therapist, who surely is not getting paid enough for those sessions (and frequent unscheduled public confrontations). It was a completely different side to her acting than fans were used to seeing from OITNB.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER NEXT: Later this year, you can catch our WCW in the comedy F*cking People, opposite Carly Chaikin and Josh Radnor. But most exciting is that starting April 26th, you can see Samira on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. This show is bonkers and Samira plays a unique role as Moira, best friend to Elisabeth Moss’ character. This show is sure to get people talking and we’re psyched that Samira will be part of the conversation.
