On the upcoming third season of Fargo, Ewan McGregor will play rival brothers. While they aren’t twins, they do share a lot of screen time together, and it’s a gimmick that’s been used for decades – and rarely gets old. This iteration of it is believable and fun, but there have certainly been instances when it comes off as silly and hard to watch.

Over the years – dating all the way back to the 1960s – the use of one actor to play twins has been done effectively and for dramatic purposes, but has also crashed and burned when used as a punchline (looking at you, Jack and Jill). Sometimes, it’s so convincing that it’s a shock to discover that it was only one actor. Whatever the case may be, it’s still bound to be fun every time an actor pulls double duty in a movie or TV show.

Here are ten times actors have played twins, both believable and completely bonkers.
