Although Netflix has traditionally been opposed to releasing its original films in theatres, the platform now claims that it would be open to releasing Will Smith’s upcoming movie Bright in theatres. The film, which follows two cops from very different backgrounds in an alternative modern world, reportedly cost the SVOD giant somewhere around $90 million and will premiere this December.

According to Forbes, Netflix’s quarterly shareholder statement released last week included an acknowledgement that it would consider releasing its original content in U.S. theatres. “Since our members are funding these films, they should be the first to see them,” the statement reads. “But we are also open to supporting the large theater chains, such as AMC and Regal in the US, if they want to offer our films, such as our upcoming Will Smith film Bright, in theatres simultaneous to Netflix. Let consumers choose.” No formal deal for a theatrical arrangement has been made at this time.
