#FireColbert Takes Twitter By Storm After Stephen Colbert’s “Homophobic” Trump Attack

It was business as usual for Stephen Colbert last night as the Late Show host took the stage, hosted guests like Amy Schumer, and laughed it up with an enthusiastic audience. He made no mention whatsoever of the controversy running rampant over the homophobic joke (“the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s cock holster”) he used on Monday evening to take down President Donald Trump, but the internet, being what it is, was far from over the incident.

Within hours after Colbert’s 12-minute monologue went viral, #FireColbert had become a trending hashtag on Twitter. While Colbert’s brutal rant included several jokes that packed quite the punch, the Putin comment put people on both sides over the edge. Outraged Trump supporters and prominent right-wing voices took to their accounts to slam Colbert and demand the host be removed from his post due to his inflammatory comments:
The verdict on Colbert is certainly not one-sided, however, as some came forward and admitted that while his comment was inappropriate, it definitely doesn’t warrant firing:
Others utilized the tag to call out conservatives on their hypocrisy for only caring about homophobia because it now suits their interests and cheer on Colbert for scaring Trump’s supporters:
And finally, the inefficacy of the right’s boycotts and calls to action (and likely failure of any movement to get Colbert removed from the show) was also bitingly noted:

CBS, Colbert, and his team have yet to comment on the controversy.
