Nicole Kidman Spits Out Chef Giada De Laurentiis’ Food During Contentious Cooking Segment

Some ingredients just don’t go together.

Chef Giada De Laurentiis dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday for what was supposed to be an innocuous cooking segment. Joined by Ellen and Big Little Lies actress Nicole Kidman, the trio set out to make a delectable dish of artichoke arancini and focaccia with clementines and fennel, but the instructional segment soon devolved into chaos as it became clear that the Academy Award-winner was not a fan of De Laurentiis’ world-renowned culinary skills. While the three ladies were giggling throughout the entire tutorial, there was some slow simmering tension boiling up between Giada and Kidman.

“Isn’t [cooking] meant to be relaxing?” Kidman asked. “That’s what my problem is when I cook. I get anxious… because I don’t know how to time everything.”

“Oh, well then don’t make so many things,” De Laurentiis curtly replied. “Just make one thing at a time.”

The final pinch of contentious salt came near the end of the segment when Ellen and Kidman finally tried the finished product. DeGeneres gamely took the first bite, but found it extremely difficult to chew. “That sure is good,” Ellen said, unconvincingly. Kidman was a little more forthright. Known for her honesty and inability to tell big or little lies, the actress didn’t hold back on her critique. “It’s a little tough,” she said.

“Nicole, it has been sitting there for like five hours!” De Laurentiis replied. “I hate doing these things for that reason!”

“I know you’re not meant to criticize but it’s a little tough,” Kidman added, before spitting out the food. “Do not let my kids see that I did that.”
