Another day, another installment in Stephen Colbert and Donald Trump’s ongoing feud. Yesterday, Trump was asked for his take on Colbert’s controversial rant, and in an interview with Times magazine called Colbert “filthy” and “a no-talent guy.” Now, thanks to the speed of late night television, Colbert has responded to the president’s critique of him. His response can be summed up in two words: thank you.

Last week, Colbert went off on a rant against Trump, which ended with him calling Trump a “cock holster” for Russian president Vladimir Putin. Following that segment, Colbert was heavily criticized, sparking the hashtag #FireColbert. In his interview with Times, Trump was asked about his opinions of several media hosts, including Colbert, whom he called names before criticizing Colbert’s ratings in typical Trumpian fashion.

On last night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the late night host almost giddily read aloud Trump’s criticism of him before saying, “The president of the United States has personally come after me and my show, and there’s only one thing to say: Yay!”

Colbert then proceeded to blow kisses to the camera and mouth out the world “I love you,” grinning widely. “Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump, there’s a lot you don’t understand. But I never thought that one of those things would be show business. Don’t you know I’ve been trying for a year to get you to say my name?” the comedian said once his audience’s cheers died down.

Since last week’s rant, both Colbert and The Late Show have been riding a wave of Twitter hashtags and increased media coverage, which is only growing. Colbert also admitted to using filthy language, but he said that he uses it in public rather than in the privacy of an Access Hollywood bus.

Towards the end of his opening monologue, the late night host gave the president this ultimatum: “Since all of my success is clearly based on talking about you, if you really want to take me down, there’s an obvious way — resign.”
