The harrowing moment comes on the heels of a series of shocking twists. After Sir George Howard (Hugh Skinner) buys Lucy (Eloise Smyth) out of spite for Charlotte’s rebellion, Lucy stabs him. Rather than let the hangman’s noose hang over her beloved daughter, Margaret (Samantha Morton) takes matters into her own hands and suffocates Howard. However, once Howard’s body is found, the likely suspects are Charlotte and her lover, Daniel Marney. You know, because they have reason to hate and kill him. Soon, the two are arrested and on Wednesday’s season finale, we’ll learn their fate.
Harlots has been one of this season’s most wonderful surprises. The Hulu series set in the seedy world of 18th century brothels manages to be both smart and sympathetic without ever being exploitative. Not only that, but the smashing series features a brilliant ensemble cast — and each character is realized in vivid three-dimensional life, which only heightens the urgency of the intense drama.
The season finale of Harlots premieres on Hulu this Wednesday, May 17th.
