Yesterday, director Ava DuVernay made all the internet’s dreams come true when she tweeted a Twitter Moment that stated Netflix has bought the film project that would bring Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna together in a buddy movie of some sort. What starts on the internet, makes it to the screen! So how did we get here, exactly? Due to a cross-platform social media buzz and some brilliant choices from the internet, for once, it seems we might get what is sure to be an incredibly entertaining film.

The original idea started with a Tumblr post from 2014 when the Grammy winner and Oscar winner were photographed together at a Miu Miu fashion show:

Last month, it picked up steam when it became a meme and Twitter wasted no time putting its imagination to the test:

Lupita knew a no-brainer when she say one, saying, “I’m down if you are,” and Rih responded with an, “I’m in Pit’z.”

Twitter, in one of it’s smartest moves yet, collectively, called for DuVernay to direct and Insecure‘s Issa Rae to write the script. They responded appropriately, complete with cat gif:

According to Entertainment Weekly, there was an intense bidding war at the Cannes Film Festival this week for rights to the project, with Netflix coming out on top. DuVernay will direct and Rae will write the script: can you say dream team? It’s looking like once Rae’s second season of Insecure premieres this July on HBO and DuVernay wraps up production on A Wrinkle In Time, this film could kick into production in 2018.

Netflix has yet to comment on the project, which could revolve around a heist theme, if Rae runs with the tweets. Her reps have also come forth to tell Vanity Fair that if that is what they go with, “the original Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form.” Could you imagine your tweet launching a movie with these gals — and maybe even getting yourself a cameo? DuVernay was right: we do deserve nice things, and leave it to her to deliver them to us.
