Life

Boasting an all-star cast (Jake Gyllenhaal! Rebecca Ferguson! Ryan Reynolds!), Life unfolds like a modern-day Alien. Well, that is if you replace all the space truckers with the crew of the very real International Space Station and the creepy Xenomorph egg with a soil sample from Mars. Still, an extraterrestrial creature gets lose in a confined space and wreaks all sorts of horrific havoc on the unlucky humans trapped inside.

A Cure for Wellness

The Ring director Gore Verbinski jumped back into the horror game with this 2016 psychological thriller starring Dane DeHaan. If trips to medical facilities make you uncomfortable, then this film—which largely unfolds in a nefarious rehabilitation center in the Swiss Alps—is definitely not for you. True to its unsettling predecessors, A Cure for Wellness contains all sorts of emotionally disturbing imagery—like jars full of human teeth!

Garden State

If you were in college in 2004, then Garden State was most likely a part of that experience. Scrubs star Zach Braff directed a visually rich comedy/drama about a young man returning to his hometown for his mother’s funeral. The film gave Natalie Portman a character to disappear into, right while she was in the middle of making the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and it also catapulted indie rock darlings the Shins into the mainstream.
