If you’ve been keeping up with Netflix’s critically-praised dramedy, you’re probably in a weird place. After all, surviving a prison riot and a horror movie-esque game of cat and mouse is nothing to laugh at, even when you’re only experiencing this stress from the comfort of your living room.
But now that we’ve all had a couple of weeks to calm down, there are a couple of Litchfield questions we need to address. Is there going to be a sixth season of Orange Is the New Black? And if so, when is it going to premiere? Here’s your guide to everything we know about new episodes of the series.
Will there be a Season 6 of Orange Is the New Black?
We know for a fact there will be OITNB Season 6. The series was already renewed for Season 6 and Season 7 in February of 2016. Also, Orange Is the New Black has always been a critical and mainstream darling for Netflix. Though it may not have the intense popularity it used to possess, it’s highly unlikely that Netflix will change its mind about those season renewals even though the streaming service has been making cuts lately.
When is Season 6 of Orange Is the New Black going to premiere?
Though the first season of Jenji Kohan’s prison dramedy premiered in July, every subsequent season has premiered in early to late June. Also, almost every season, with the exception of Seasons 1 and 3, has premiered on Fridays. Though no official release date has been announced, our best guess for the OITNB Season 6 release date is either June 1, June 8, or June 15 of 2018.
Didn’t Season 5 end on a cliffhanger?
Good memory! This past season ended with most of our favorite characters holding hands and bracing themselves as officers broke into their underground bunker. With Piscatella’s death, Season 5 has already shown that the officers in question aren’t adverse to extreme violence. Hopefully all of our favorite characters (which include Taylor Schlling’s Piper, Laura Prepon’s Alex, Kate Mulgrew’s Red, Uzo Aduba’s Crazy Eyes, and Danielle Brooks’ Taystee) will make it out alive.
