Charter’s Spectrum TV Is One Of The Best Skinny Bundle Deals We’ve Seen To Date

This week, Charter Communications announced a brand new live television streaming service dubbed Spectrum TV, which is currently only available to existing Spectrum (formerly Time Warner) customers. The new service, which is priced at only $19.95 per month, is offered as a skinny bundle and is one of the best contract-free deals of its kind that we’ve seen to date.

According to a notice sent to current customers, the online service’s initial base package includes local broadcast channels like FOX, ABC and CBS, as well as 25 cable networks, including AMC, CNN, A&E, History, TNT and Discovery. The service also boasts an additional 5,000 free on demand titles to choose from and a brand new Spectrum TV app for Samsung Smart TV’s, Roku, Xbox One, and mobile devices.

While the basic package may not be ideal for sports fans considering there’s no sports content, it’s one heck of a bargain, especially since it includes local channels unlike Dish Network’s Sling TV which is at the same price point. There’s also an option to add ESPN’s channels, NBC Sports, The Weather Channel, Bloomberg and more for an additional $12 per month and premium networks such as HBO, Showtime, Starz and more for an additional $10 per month.

If launched commercially, the service would compete with Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T’s DirecTV Now and Sony’s PlayStation Vue, which are all priced higher. Verizon has also implied that it plans to launch a streaming service by the end of this year. While there are no clear plans for the company to release the platform on a larger scale, cord-cutting has helped to drop the cost of live television by more than 50 percent.
