After what seems like an eternity’s worth of “X reads Trump’s tweet like Y” segments across all late night comedy shows, Stephen Colbert has finally come up with one that actually makes the president’s tweets fun. During a visit to The Late Show to promote his upcoming movie War for the Planet of the Apes, acclaimed actor and motion capture pioneer Andy Serkis got back into the Gollum groove and read two Trump tweets in the sinister Hobbit’s voice.

What will surprise you (it definitely surprised Colbert) is just how perfectly the tweets work in Gollum’s voice. And if you’ve ever doubted Serkis’ acting ability when he’s not covered in a spandex body suit and tiny dots, then this clip will persuade you. The guy goes from British actor to The Lord of the Rings’ contorted, demented fantasy creature at a moment’s notice–and Serkis’ voice actually makes these tweets seem kinda… precious? Truly, Serkis’ acting ability is unparalleled! Another surprising tidbit: apparently Serkis totally missed out on covfefe mania, because he’s totally taken aback by that bizarre typo (although Gollum pronounces it with gusto).

War for the Planet of the Apes arrives in theaters on July 14.
