We’re not letting July come to a close without honoring a super dope gal, the one and only Jessica Williams.

She’s an actress and a host and a true Queen if there ever was one. With her latest Netflix film, The Incredible Jessica James, she’s also a superstar, and one that we’ll be watching for a long, long time.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Jessica Williams

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Not only do we love watching and listening to Jessica, we love following in her footsteps. Earlier this year at a female filmmakers lunch at Sundance, Jessica boldly voiced her opinion and shared her life experiences with a table of women that had perhaps not considered her point of view until that exact moment. It was not only ballsy, it was damn important and it was the truth.

Of course, this is nothing new for the co-host of the 2 Dope Queens podcast, or the former correspondent of The Daily Show. We count on her for being outspoken, and for being herself. Jessica’s not only a total star because she’s a great actress, it’s because she’s shining a light on important perspectives for the world to see, and that is why she is truly friggin’ dope.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Jessica first starred in the Nickelodeon series Just for Kicks back in 2006, before making an audition tape and sending it off to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which she joined in 2012 — becoming the show’s youngest correspondent ever. The world knows to recognize a star when it sees one, and Jessica’s career was off and running. She’s popped up in Girls and Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and gave an excellent performance in the indie People Places Things, opposite Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement. That film’s writer and director Jim Strouse knew he wanted to work with Jessica again, and they re-teamed for The Incredible Jessica James, hitting Netflix this Friday. Jessica stars as Jessica, a woman trying to get over her ex and figure out her life, only she’s SO much better at it than the rest of us. She also currently hosts the hilarious podcast 2 Dope Queens with her pal Phoebe Robinson, and no commute is complete without it.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: You will not want to miss Jessica in The Incredible Jessica James this Friday on Netflix. Her chemistry with co-star Chris O’Dowd is nothing short of delightful, and this will be just one of the films we point to in the future when we look back on what is sure to be just the start of an illustrious career for Jessica.
