Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 5, “Eastwatch” is still about a week away. Luckily, we have a 30 second preview to breakdown.

What Is It?: This week’s official Game of Thrones preview.

What Are We Basically Seeing?: The clip opens in what looks to be the immediate aftermath of last week’s “loot train battle.” (Ugh, I hate that name so much!) Daenerys tells the crowds of surviving Lannister forces that she’s “not here to murder.” Then she announces that they must bend the knee or die. Tyrion looks uneasy about her very imperious tone of voice. After a quick shot of the devastation of the battle, we cut back to Dragonstone where Varys tells Tyrion, “You need to find a way to make her listen.” We see Daenerys looking stone cold, Drogon soaring, and Jon Snow looking up as Drogon and Dany “greet” him on Dragonstone. I say “greet,” because Drogon is snarling at him – but not dousing him in flames. Cersei says, “Whatever stands in our way, we will defeat it.” There’s a shot of Winterfell, then we’re back in the Dragonstone map room where Jon is telling Dany’s crew and Ser Davos that Bran saw the Night King’s army marching towards a place called Eastwatch. We get a shot of Bran’s milky white magic stare that jumps to ravens flying the army of the dead. Ser Davos gets the last word: “Bad things are coming.”

Where Should I Pause It?: There’s not a lot of juicy stuff hidden within the quick cuts this week. Two things you might want to pause at, though, are:

  • Circa 0:17, where you can see that, yes, that is Dany and Drogon giving their version of a “Hello” to Jon Snow.
  • And then at 0:22, where you can see that Jon is delivering Bran’s message whilst still in Dragonstone. (Which tells us that Jon is now aware that Bran’s alive and sort of well.)

What Do You Think Is Going To Happen Next Week? Okay, fine, let me make some informed guesses here…

Dany is going to begin to frighten her own allies by displaying a bit too many scary Targaryen tendencies. And if Tyrion wants to find a way to make her listen, he may try enlisting Jon Snow — the one person whose advice she seemed interested in listening to during “The Spoils of War” — to do the job.

Jon’s either going to get a raven from Winterfell informing him of Bran’s vision (or Bran will use his own mystical Three-Eyed Raven powers to get him the message).

Finally, we’ll probably get a big battle at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, the easternmost castle along the Wall – where the Wildings and Brotherhood are already headed and where the army of the dead is set to descend. (No, I don’t know if the official name of the castle is a reference to Manchester-by-the-sea, but it checks out.)

How Long Do I Need To Wait For This All-New Episode? Game of Thrones “Eastwatch” will be available to stream Sunday, August 13 at 9 PM.
